10 Reasons Why You Should Have An Electric Bike
A few days ago, while on another electric bike blog (I should never do this), I stumbled upon this article titled "Why don't you want a super high-speed electric bike". I will save you from the pain of reading this article and sum it up as "You don't want a super fast electric bike, because you should be a good boy\girl, do what you should do, so you don’t do it" Don’t Destroy it for the rest of us" (note the less subtle humiliation part?). Honestly, I would rather eat Brussels sprouts than read that article, but it really made me think about why the fast electric bike kicks so much Great?
* ‘Real Electric Bike’ is defined as any ebike over 750 watts with no 20mph cutoff and preferably with a decent mid-drive
1) Time is money
When I was young and stupid, I would work for chicken feet. Now I find that if I don't get a good pay, I don't want to do anything. My experience is that if you give someone "free" advice, they tend to ignore you. Charge them $100/hour, and then people really start to listen.
Is there a 30-minute drive? A bicycle (average speed of 9.6 mph) may make the commute time longer. Using fast electric bicycles, you can greatly shorten work commuting time. Don't waste your life in the slow lane.
2) Live fast, die young
I can't believe that I'm not dead yet, I've been reckless to the extreme since I entered puberty. When does that part of the brain tell you to escape? Yes, I don't have that part. Somehow, I survived. If you can live into your 70s, you can choose to be like my good friend Eric, who is still smashing it with a high-power electric bicycle in a deep prisoner of war! Be like Eric when you grow up. Don’t ride 250W electric bicycles in their retirement resort like all the elderly in Florida. *yawn*
To be clear, posting good news on social media about people who end up dying of high-powered electric bicycles will soon become obsolete, so save us the trouble and don't be killed by your fast electric bicycles. Died the right way, in bed, 90 years old, with an empty bottle of Viagra, surrounded by a group of angry, unpaid prostitutes.
3) Motorcycles are more dangerous
When I drove through states where people don’t have to wear helmets, I watched motorcycles drive on interstate highways at 70 mph or more without wearing helmets, and I thought to myself, “They think I built the 40 mph E-bikes are dangerous?” Let’s be clear here, the legal distinction between motorcycles/cars/electric bikes and bicycles has almost nothing to do with safety, but with payment to the system. For motorcycles, they do not perform crash tests, because if you collide on a motorcycle, you will almost be F*cked (capital F). Ever wondered why motorcycle insurance is so cheap (usually less than $80/year)? This is because insurance companies like motorcycles, because when an accident occurs, it is almost always the fault of another person. The only reason for allowing motorcycles to travel on highways is because you have to pay for "system" fees. Think about registration, insurance, inspections, and fuel costs. All of them will get into someone's pocket (spoiler alert: this is a "man").
4) Fast electric bicycles are cheaper than any other motorized transportation
Now, let's think about electric bikes. All you have is an initial investment in an electric bike, and a few pennies to charge it, nothing more (they are a very environmentally friendly transportation option). No wonder the "man" wants to adjust the electric bike to keep you below 750 watts and 20 miles per hour. This is not to be safe, but to get all your money. With the $350 Cyclone 3000W mid-drive kit, you can convert almost any bicycle into a super mid-drive. Using 72v battery and 3-speed IGH, the kit is EPIC. There are many large and cheap hub motors like MXUS, but honestly, I am not a big fan of hub motors.
If you choose a Chinese low-power electric bicycle with a beautiful American company logo, it is unlikely to be even that cheap (although there are exceptions).
5) How I just got crashpads and learned to stop worrying about the bomb’
Many years ago, I invested in a Joe Rocket leather jacket. It has Kevlar bumpers on its shoulders and elbows, and I installed a spinal plate on my back. I treated it with leather honey, and the jacket is still cherry in many years later. If you buy a good jacket and take good care of it, it will let you use it forever. This is the jacket I wear when I ride an electric bike at speeds of more than 40 mph or when I ride a bicycle at speeds of more than 50 mph. Even a hospital visit is much cheaper than the $325 I spent on this jacket. Oh yes, the dick would smoke it because it made my skinny "girl man" chest and arms look as if I really had some muscles. Great for avoiding fights with guys you probably shouldn't fight (my face messes up a lot of people's fists).
When your head is embedded in someone’s windshield, your beautiful hairstyle will not look so pretty, so wear a helmet. When you are about to have an accident, look where you want to go, not what you don't want to hit. No matter where you look, your body will take you wherever you go.
6) You won’t get doored if you’re not in the strike zone
When riding a high-speed electric bike, you ride in the middle of the lane to keep up with the city traffic. This means that your chances of being visited by ignorant guys who are not paying attention in class are almost zero. As a tip, if you want to prevent cyclists from coming when you open the door, reach out with your right hand to open the door. For whatever reason, this will make you look back. I always open the door an inch, waiting for warnings from cars and bicycles, and I will throw the baby away.
7) Riding in the middle of the road is safer
When you are riding on the right side of the road and the car has to go around you, it is dangerous to you and dangerous to the car. This is better for everyone when you are in the middle of the lane and keeping up with the traffic. The car is very happy, people don't sound the horn, leaning out of the window to curse you. You are not cursing, the world is a better place for it. When people drive at 30-35 miles per hour or higher, only masochists or those who really want to be cursed will ride electric bikes at 20 miles per hour in the middle of the road.
I have to say that when I threw a Ludicrous 60amp BBSHD onto my Soul Stomper, I was very annoyed by the speed of the car. With 2500W, you will accelerate to 30 mph faster than most mass-produced cars, because your weight depends only on your weight + about 60 pounds for an electric bicycle, not a few thousand pounds. Let physics work for you to change. You deserve an expensive sports car to accelerate in a crappy, cheap, high-power mid-drive.
8) Left turns into oncoming traffic is safer
Because you can run faster, if you choose to turn left into oncoming traffic, high-power electric bikes will be safer because you can turn faster and avoid oncoming traffic much faster. If you want to be truly safe, the best way is to make a "pedestrian turn", you turn right instead of left, and then line up to cross the road (pictured below). Turning left is the cause of many serious bicycle accidents, and it is easy to avoid it by turning right and going straight along the lights.
9) Just because you HAVE the power doesn’t mean you have to USE it
But if you need the power to get out of trouble, it will appear. If you are using a legal street hub with a speed of 20 mph and 750 watts of electric bicycle, once it appears, it will most likely not get you out of trouble. In 2016, a woman was rescued by her BBSHD (1000W electric bike kit that is technically illegal in the United States). Now you might say "speed to death", you are right, but sometimes if you can't escape...you will die.
I don’t even understand the meaning of an electric bicycle at 20 mph. Without a motor, my pedal-powered road bike can easily reach 25 mph on flat ground, and my new car is priced at $400. If you are so afraid of walking so fast, why buy an electric bike? Just buy a lightweight road bike.
With an ICE engine, if you want more power, the engine will quickly become very heavy. This does not happen with electric motors, because the electric motors will only become slightly heavier as the power increases sharply. Compared to the total price of an electric bike, the price difference between a more powerful motor and a "legal" product is also very small. In many cases, the weight of the battery does not increase at all. If you are using a high-power battery such as 25R or 30Q, or if you have a very large battery pack (such as a 7P or larger battery pack), you only need a more powerful BMS, which can handle more power Demand because your battery will be able to withstand the load.
10) If you do get into an accident you don’t have to worry about your ebike crushing you
For example, when I was about 15 years old, I was racing in a supermarket parking lot, when I became a thong. I saw the car rushing towards me, but there was no time to stop, nor did my bike have the power to accelerate away from it. In slow motion, I looked down at the bumper that was about to crush my leg, and then jumped off the bike. I slid about 100 feet in the parking lot with my backpack on, and when the bike was sailing in the air and landing, the rear wheels were all wrapped up like pretzels. If it were a hundreds-pound motorcycle, it might overtake me and crush me or my leg because I was not injured (though the woman who hit me was very scared). I picked up my bike, threw it on my shoulder, told her it was my fault, and walked away. It was another bad day in a reckless and crazy life.
Another added benefit is that the electric bike may not cause much damage to any car that hits you, which is always a good thing.
